These animals need your help!

While adoption fees help to cover the cost of routine veterinary and other costs for each animal we take into rescue, sometimes expenses arise which go far beyond the expected. Although we always try to say 'yes' when approached with cases like these, the unexpected expenses strain our budget. We ask you to please read below and see if either of these stories touch your heart. Even a small donation to these animals is helpful, and deeply appreciated. All funds in excess of the amount required will be used for the next animal with extraordinary needs.

TwitterTwitter

Twitter is a 3 yr old Chihuahua mix who came to PetConnect in November. This little girl loves her toys, and loves to chase a ball. While in foster care, it was noticed that Twitter would sometimes hold her back leg up when she ran, but she continued to play and run at full speed and didn't appear to be in pain. Unfortunately, as time went on it was noticed that Twitter would hold the leg up more often, and cry out in pain. An orthopedic surgery vet diagnosed her with a luxating patella, meaning that her kneecap would slip out of place. Without treatment, this condition would worsen, possibly causing Twitter to lose the use of her leg. Obviously, we could not let this happen, so little Twitter had surgery last month to repair the knee.

Twitter's foster parents work, and were unable to care for her during her recovery period, so PetConnect has been paying to board her where she can be supervised. After 8 weeks of rest, she will begin physical therapy, and should regain full use of her leg. By summer, she will be running and chasing her ball as if she never had a problem!

This is good news for Twitter, but the combined surgery, boarding and therapy costs are far in excess of our adoption fee.

Lady and Her PuppiesLadyLady's Puppies

Lady is a young Shepherd mix who was taken from a neglectful environment and then found to be pregnant. The woman who rescued Lady was also very pregnant, and unable care for one dog, much less a dog and puppies. So she took Lady to a vet, who agreed to board her until a rescue organization could take over her care.

On December 14, Lady gave birth to 12 puppies. Although one died at birth, the other 11 are healthy, happy pups. Finding a foster home for a dog and 11 puppies has proven impossible, though, so Lady and her babies remain in boarding until the pups can be weaned in mid-February. At that time, we hope to find foster and adoptive homes for each of them. In the meantime, the boarding costs are mounting.

Any amount, however small, will help to defray this expense of Twitter's surgery, boarding, and therapy, and boarding for Lady and her puppies. If you can help, please click here to donate online, or mail your check to:
