Muddy Paws Farm

We proudly announce...

Muddy Paws

PetConnect Rescue is proud to announce the opening of Muddy Paws Farm, a refuge for homeless animals on their path to new, loving forever homes. This beautiful 5-acre property, located in Mt. Airy, MD, is currently a way station for our dogs arriving from shelters. We hope to slowly expand, eventually welcoming not only dogs, but cats and possibly other animals in need. A resident caretaker will oversee the property and the care of the animals, essentially creating a large foster home situation. Each of our adoption coordinators will be allowed one space at the farm for an animal without a foster home to go to when it arrives.

Our guest animals will be primarily housed on the lower level of the house, where there are separate living spaces for each animal, a bathing area, laundry facilities, and an indoor exercise area, as well as direct access to the huge fenced exercise area. On the main floor of the house are the caretaker’s private living quarters, as well as a communal kitchen, living room and office, where volunteers will be welcome during their allotted shifts.

Outside, there is a barn which may be used for rescued farm animals. There is a beautiful brick patio with a pergola providing shade for the animals and their human friends. Also planned is a peaceful, welcoming pond which will be reached by a brick pathway from the house. Bricks are now available to sponsor in honor of yourself, a pet, friend or family member, or in memory of someone special. For more information on the bricks, please click here.

In addition to giving animals a temporary home, Muddy Paws is envisioned as a site for small fundraising events as well as a location for volunteers to offer their time and talents to help PetConnect. Donated items such as food, bedding and crates will be kept here, giving adoption coordinators and foster families a centralized location for obtaining supplies.

We are excited about the volunteer opportunities at Muddy Paws. We invite and encourage our wonderful volunteers to consider committing to a regular schedule, such as once a week or twice a month. Some of our needs will include:

  • Walking and exercising dogs
  • Bathing animals
  • Cleaning runs and kennel spaces
  • Cleaning communal areas
  • Doing laundry (dog beds, etc)
  • Helping to organize donated items
  • Collecting and delivering donated supplies
  • Office work: filing, etc.
  • Preparing food for animals
  • Supplying hugs and kisses!

We are also looking for a dog groomer who will get our new arrivals ready to meet the public.
